FEMA Updates

  • National Shelter System Training – trainings are being scheduled for Georgia and Florida.
  • Following is the website for the initial training necessary to begin the process.  (https://rims.fema.net/cbt_nss/startsco.htm)
  • Animals in Emergencies DVD Program – We have copies of the DVD available.  Contact Ken, Larry, or Jerry for copies.  You may also want to take a look at (http://emc.ornl.gov/CSEPPweb/animals/animals_emergencies_owner.htm)  At that site is a downloadable version.  You will have to install updates of Realtime to view it.
  • State VOAD Meeting Schedule for 2008 – Is attached.
  • Region IV IA Conference (April – TBD) – Is being developed.  At your request, the listing of all state and national conferences is attached.  Please share any omissions so that it can be shared.
  • DHS OFBCI Training – Miami, 1/31/08 DHS is hosting this conference in Miami. It is similar to events that have taken place in Charlotte, Charleston, Tampa, and Minneapolis. The conference is an opportunity for faith based organizations to obtain information about government grants which may be of interest.
  • TRO Transition Update – FL, AL All voluntary agency inquiries should now be directed to the regional office.

KAT Updates (Stephen Carr)

Is entering its final quarter of operations. Have served more than 66K cases.  March 31 is final date.  Will be a conference in New Orleans at that time.

TSA Updates (Jeff Jellets)

Jim Garrett, Jeff, and Mike at Territorial training taking place in Orlando.

State Updates

  • AL (Becky Booker) – Continues casework, repairing houses, organizing VOADS.  Seeking information on organizing VOADs.
  • GA (Bob Tribble) – Continuing organizing state VOADs.  Is using documents from NVOAD website for organizing local COADs/VOADs.
  • FL (Marcus Hepburn) – Met in December.  Next meeting is in March.  Continuing to work with Volunteer Florida on the Florida Catastrophic Planning piece.  Working on standards for case management with COA.
  • KY (Jim Garrett) – Quarterly meeting to take place  on the 10th.  Working on local LTR manual.  Working with Louisville and Paducah on forming VOADs.
  • MS (Robert Renfroe) – No more mobile home sales in Mississippi and Louisiana.  First annual state VOAD conference will be February 14-15.  New board to be installed.  Working Mississippi Gulf area to form SMVOAD.
  • NC (Charlie Moeller) – Quarterly meeting to take place in Raleigh on January 22, 2008.  Working on by-laws.  Reviewing roles and Responsibilities of persons at VOAD Desk in EOC.  Charlotte is forming VOAD.  Organizing VOAD and Interfaith Conference.   Date to be determined.
  • SC (Mike Patterson) unavailable
  • TN (John Sims) – Just completed quarterly meeting.  Next meeting is February 14 in Nashville.  Need table top exercise to share with members.  Was told that Chris Floyd could help with table top exercises.

NVOAD Updates (Mark Johnston)

Ken reminded group of importance of taking ICS Courses, in particular 100, 200, 700 and 800.  This is important if agencies are to come to an understanding of how FEMA operates.
